Harri Ihanus
EYE OPENER - DEBUT ALBUM Harri was born in Fagersta in 1964. Music came into his life when he was a teenager playing in different rock and blues bands. At the same time he was interested in more improvised and jazz related music influenced by other music friends. He also studied classic music. Harri started his musical studies at a folk high-school and went on to the collage of music Musikhögskolan in Örebro from 1986 to 1990. Then he went to Los Angeles to study at Musicians Institute for musicians like Joe Diorio, Peter Sprague and Scott Henderson. Harri passed his exam as Outstanding Student Of The Year on his instrument. Back in Sweden he works as a freelance musician and teacher at the collage of music in Piteå. A scholarship gave him the possibility to study at Berklee. Jerry Bergonzi was one of his teachers. Harri was interested in improvised music and jazz by listening to John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola-typ playing acoustic music but also musicians like Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, Larry Coryell, have inspired him. One of his close friends introduced him to more traditional, bebop jazz with Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel and many others like John Coltrane.
